Built around the fourth century BC, the forum in Pompeii was a small open area around which there were shops. After the Roman conquest, the Forum was completely modernized: in fact around the square the main political and religious buildings were erected. The area will then be further modified, flooring was redone and a temple dedicated to the emperor was built.
After the burial of Pompeii by the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD, the area was brought to light only in the early nineteenth century by Caroline Bonaparte.
