House of the Faun

Rich home of a Roman, The House of the Faun dates back to the second century B.C. and was also buried during the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD.

The House of the Faun iswas one of the largest houses of Pompeii with an area of about 3000 square meters, covering almost entirely the insula 12 of Regio VI.

The house owes its name to a bronze statue, once placed at the center of the Impluvium, depicting a satyr, and the famous mosaic of the Battle of Issus. The statue is now in the Archeological Museum in Naples.
